Flicker Kerin, LLP, known as Flicker, Kerin, Kruger & Bissada LLP for the last 20 years, returns to predecessor name, paying tribute to its founding principals and reiterating its enduring commitment to excellence in family law.

A Respected Name Since the 1970s

Our founding principal, Michael R. Flicker, practiced family law on the peninsula for over 50 years. In 1991, after his previous firm was dissolved, Anthony J. Kerin, III joined Michael Flicker to form Flicker & Kerin, LLP in Palo Alto. Rolf D. Kruger and Michèle M. Bissada joined the firm in 2003 and were made principals in 2005. Shortly after, in 2006, the firm was renamed Flicker, Kerin, Kruger & Bissada LLP. The firm, referred to as FKKB during the last 20 years, grew to become one of the most well-respected and largest family law firms in Northern California.  

With each retirement, the firm experienced new leadership, updating and evolving while holding true to the firm’s guiding principles. Marisa C. San Filippo was elevated to Principal in 2016 after eight years of mentorship by the named principals, and the firm said farewell to its founding principal, Michael Flicker, later that year.  Five years after joining the firm, David C. Erb was named Principal in 2018, and Anthony Kerin, the firm’s remaining founding principal, began winding down his caseload and ultimately retired in 2022. Alice A. Shaw became a principal in 2023 after six years of mentorship by the principals, and Rolf Kruger retired from the practice of law in 2024. 

After 30 years of litigating, Michèle Bissada transitioned to an exclusively neutral practice in 2025, serving as a mediator and private judge in family law matters. At the end of 2025, the firm said farewell to its final named principal, Michèle Bissada, who transitioned to Signature Resolution LLC, an Alternative Dispute Resolution company, to expand her neutral practice. After five years with the firm, Brittney N. Sturtevant was elevated to Principal in early 2026 to join Marisa San Filippo, David Erb, and Alice Shaw in overseeing firm operations.

Although the principals have changed over the years, Flicker Kerin’s current leadership was mentored by its founding principals to uphold the values, vision, and commitment to excellence that have defined the firm for more than five decades. Under their guidance, the firm has continued to expand as one of the region’s foremost family law practices. Widely respected within the community, the firm is recognized for its professionalism, exceptional legal expertise, and its dedication to developing and mentoring outstanding attorneys.

Return to the Firm’s Origins 

In 2026, the firm returned to a familiar name, Flicker Kerin, LLP, to honor its roots and reaffirm the values that have guided it for five decades: integrity, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to its clients.

Our rebranding pays tribute to the spectacular attorneys who contributed to our firm’s success since the 1970s and helped build our excellent reputation in the community.
